The Debt of Love

(Rm 13:8)

Due to the way our economy is being structured, most people have one debt or the other that they keep on servicing, especially for people living in the developed nations. Some of these debts we owe are sometimes used to weigh our credit rating in order to confirm a man’s financial discipline, level of financial prudence and especially what they can and cannot afford.

The chief among the debts most people own in developed nations is the Mortgage. To this extent, people do so many things, including cutting back expenses, securing a second job and reviewing established financial routines until this loan is fully paid. However, there is a debt we cannot fully pay off, the name is “LOVE”, while we should pay our financial and other obligations, the only debt that can never be fully repaid is the debt of love we owe to all people. I pray that the Lord will give us the grace to serve this continually, IJN.

Believers service the debt of love by loving the Lord our creator, loving our neighbour, all members of our family, etc. and regardless of our status as a Christian, you will never reach a stage where you can conclude that you now love others as much as you ought to. The Lord will give us the grace to love people more and more, IJN.

There should be no middle ground in love; we may not like everyone, but we owe everyone the duty to love them (Jhn 13:34-35). Love should not be viewed through the lens of a food that you can select, which one you like or not, it should not be considered as a fashion piece that you can select, whether one fits you or not .

Love is a divine mandate that we are bound to fulfil; it is an undying debt. Every man is our creditor for that debt, and God is the chief debt collector. Love is a fulfilment of other commandments (Gal 5:14). Love goes beyond feelings; it involves commitment and sacrificing oneself in order to seek the highest good of the one being loved. This is the debt we owe each other till Christ comes. I pray the Lord will increase our capacity to continue paying IJN.

Memory verse: 2 Corinthians 9:7: So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver

Introduction:  Giving refers to the act of offering resources or possessions to God and others willingly or voluntarily.

Giving is an expression of love, it is one of the attributes of God, the Bible says, for God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16; it is the way God expresses His love towards us and it’s a great joy for the Lord to see His children looking after themselves and His Work wholeheartedly with what He’s given them. God loves those who steward His provision towards them properly, remembering the poor and the needy around them for Sometimes God gives us His blessings to pass it on to others, knowing fully well that if He can pass through us to others, He can also pass to us

Giving also means to yield, to provide, to communicate, or to contribute to a common purpose. In a spiritual context, it is an act of worship, faith, and love, reflecting God's own generosity and involving sacrifices for the sake of others.

What a Friend we have in Jesus

  • What a friend we have in Jesus,
    All our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
    Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
    Oh, what needless pain we bear,
    All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer!

  • Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged—
    Take it to the Lord in prayer.
    Can we find a friend so faithful,
    Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness;
    Take it to the Lord in prayer.

  • Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
    Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
    May we ever, Lord, be bringing
    All to Thee in earnest prayer.
    Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
    There will be no need for prayer—
    Rapture, praise, and endless worship
    Will be our sweet portion there
